CINCINNATI, OH, Dec. 29, 2016 – Over-the-Rhine retailer and lunch counter Park + Vine is closing its Main Street storefront Jan. 15 and ending on a high note with record sales year and its final chili cook-off.

“Since we announced that Park + Vine is closing one month ago, we’ve seen a constant stream of people paying their last respects. It’s humbling to witness this outpouring of support from the community,” said Park + Vine store owner Danny Korman.

Final Park + Vine Chili Cook-off takes place 3 to 5 p.m. Jan. 15, 2017. Tickets are $10 for the Chili Tasting. Registration is available online until 6 p.m. Jan. 14, or $15 at the door the day of the event. Chili entries are $10 and limited to 20 spots. Kids under 10 are free. Drinks, including beer, coffee and kombucha, are separate. Cook-off is completely vegan and, therefore, free from animal byproducts.

There are two categories: People’s Choice and Judge’s Pick. Losantiville designer Chris Heckman is creating keepsake wooden plaques for both winners. Judges this year include:

  • Perennial favorite Colonel De, Colonel De’s Gourmet Spices and Herbs
  • Rachel DesRochers, Grateful Grahams
  • Mark Frommeyer, Blue Oven Bakery
  • Amy Hunter, Mercantile Library
  • Ilene Ross, 513{eats}

Park + Vine opened its first location on Vine Street in June 2007 and then relocated to 1202 Main Street in October 2010. Park + Vine opened when there were few other businesses nearby. A native of Cincinnati, Korman moved back to open Park + Vine after living in New York and Chicago for more than a decade.

In addition to chili cook-off, Park + Vine has hosted other annual events, including Queen City Bike + Dine, Main Street Thanksgiving Progressive Dinner, and Plaid Friday Urban Hike and other walks with Imago nature group. Park + Vine was an integral part of the community and honored to contribute to the overall vitality of Over-the-Rhine.
